KONAMI's announcement names the second DS game "Portrait or Ruin" and gives 2008 for it; the game's title is Portrait of Ruin and KONAMI's US release history lists December 5, 2006, which this page follows.

Where to Start in This Collection

Dawn of Sorrow is A tier on our tier list, fifth of ten best games and relatively friendly in the difficulty ranking, and KONAMI places its story one year after Aria of Sorrow. Order of Ecclesia is a demanding, harder exploration entry and sixth of ten best games. Portrait of Ruin is B tier and is not in our best-games or difficulty lists.

Order of Ecclesia (2008) is the last original DS exploration entry before Belmont's Curse; see Which Castlevania to play first for how that is defined, and the timeline for story placement. No game here is required before Belmont's Curse.
